Marcopolo Adventure Yachts says the MP12 will work during Monaco Yacht Show as a client-transfer boat for Y.CO brokers, moving people between appointments, yachts and different areas of Port Hercule. That makes the announcement more useful than a normal dockside launch. For the owner of a larger yacht, the 12.70-metre boat is being placed into the daily logistics of the busiest superyacht week of the season.
The MP12 is described with fold-down bulwarks that extend the aft living area, a modular deck layout, a deep-V hull and three 400 hp Mercury V10 outboards. Marcopolo also refers to a three-step hull developed with CFD work. Y.CO separately presents Monaco Yacht Show as a week of planned viewings, broker meetings and movement between yachts. In that environment a tender quickly shows whether it is an operational tool or just a polished day boat.
What Will Monaco Test?
A chase boat can promise almost anything on a specification sheet: speed, comfort, space and offshore capability. Monaco asks more practical questions. How many guests can board without fuss? Is the step aboard safe in a busy harbour? Do the bulwarks, shade, grab rails and crew communication work when the client has fifteen minutes between appointments?
That is the same logic behind our note on how Monaco tests the market after Cannes. At the superyacht shows, a launch matters less if the product cannot prove itself in use.
A Buyer’s Lesson
If an owner is choosing a tender for a 40, 60 or 80-metre yacht, top speed should not be the only question. Freeboard, dry running, behaviour in reflected harbour chop, engine service, luggage space and storage on the mothership all matter.
An owner-side adviser such as W Yachts should treat this kind of MP12 use as a small due-diligence test. A boat that moves clients around a real harbour reveals more about its ergonomics than one photographed beside flags and banners.
That does not automatically make the MP12 the right tender for every programme. It does show Marcopolo trying to prove the product where a tender stops being an accessory and becomes part of sales, charter and owner support.
