Meccano Engineering has presented Medesign as a new design brand and unveiled Infinity, a 110-metre gigayacht concept with a 16.3-metre beam. The proposal features a mirrored superstructure inspired by the infinity symbol, pools across multiple levels, a SkyDomeTerrace, a retractable glass Magrodome system and guest balconies.
The announcement is visually dramatic, as Monaco Yacht Show concepts tend to be. The more important point is the background. Medesign sits inside Meccano Engineering, a company based in Trieste and Livorno, active since 2000 and working across marine, yacht, defence and energy projects. The release cites more than 800 projects and clients including Fincantieri, Mariotti, Vard, Ferretti, Azimut-Benetti, MSC and Crystal.
A Render Is Only The Start
For a buyer, a 110-metre concept is not yet a product. It is an invitation to ask who would engineer it, who would build it, who would class it, who would keep it inside budget and who would carry the risk between vision and contract.
Infinity shows ambition: large glazing, moving structures, complex leisure spaces and a very strong styling language. Each feature has a technical shadow. Glass means weight, heat gain and privacy issues. A retractable roof means service access and failure modes. Pools on several decks mean stability, plumbing and operating procedures.
Broker Questions
With a project like this, the conversation should start from engineering and work back toward the render. How much customisation is realistic? Which shipyard has comparable experience at this length and complexity? Has the concept entered any preliminary class discussion? What are the early assumptions on weight and hotel-load energy demand?
Our recent Monaco Yacht Show market note argued that the show tests both buyer mood and the credibility of promises. Medesign has a useful argument in the engineering background of Meccano. The next question is whether Infinity remains a Monaco image or becomes a serious owner-and-yard discussion.
For an owner, the lesson is simple: the more spectacular the concept, the earlier the technical adviser and broker should be brought into the negotiation. W Yachts can help buyers separate design ambition from buildable risk.
