ExploMar WAVE 300 tests the electric tender case for superyachts

Capt. Paweł Grot · Technology and operations · · 3 min read

ExploMar used the autumn show season and Monaco Yacht Show 2026 to promote its WAVE electric-outboard family, including the WAVE 300. For the superyacht market, this is not simply a sustainability accessory story. The more practical question is whether high-output electric propulsion can work for tenders and chase boats that repeat short routes between yacht, marina and beach.

The manufacturer presents WAVE 300 as a 300 hp outboard and also shows twin installations in its system material. Marine Industry News, speaking with the company before Monaco, noted that ExploMar is moving electric outboards beyond smaller craft towards larger recreational and commercial applications. That is relevant, but peak horsepower alone does not make the case for a superyacht tender.

What Needs Counting

The first number is weight. ExploMar lists a lightweight 300 hp motor at 218 kg, but that is not the weight of the whole installation. Batteries, cooling, steering, controls, cabling, protection systems and any redundancy still have to be added. Only the full system weight tells a designer whether the tender will keep its trim, payload and performance.

The second number is the route profile. Guest transfer rarely looks like a catalogue test. A tender accelerates, slows, waits alongside, carries people and bags, then returns to recharge within a limited window. With electric propulsion, the useful question is how many repeat trips the boat can make at a realistic load, with margin for wind, chop and an emergency return.

Where It Fits

The technology may make sense for boats working around one operating base, especially where the mothership or marina has planned charging capacity. It is less obvious for a tender expected to run long high-speed legs every day without reliable power at the other end.

Our recent note on Ferretti Group’s Watchit Sense 360 showed how electronics are moving into everyday yacht operations. WAVE 300 touches the propulsion side of the same shift. For a W Yachts client, it is not yet a simple yes-or-no buying argument, but it belongs on the checklist for a new tender package, onboard charging and service planning.
