Omikron takes the OT-60 to three U.S. shows as relaxed cruising meets a harder market

Omikron Yachts, the yacht-building arm of Olympic Marine, has set out an autumn U.S. market test for the OT-60. The programme covers three events: Newport International Boat Show from 17 to 20 September, Annapolis Powerboat Show from 8 to 11 October and Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from 28 October to 1 November. The brand’s South Florida partner is Jono Fleming of Axis Marine Group.

This is more than another stand announcement. The OT-60 sits in one of the more interesting parts of the market: motor cruisers trying to borrow the comfort and calm associated with sailing, without asking the owner to run a sailing yacht. Omikron says the Eco-Cruise Hull was designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian, with interiors and exteriors by Lorenzo Argento. The yard quotes a range of up to 1,400 nautical miles at 8 knots, at 1.25 litres per nautical mile. With twin 370 hp Yanmar engines, cruising speed is stated at 16 knots.

Why Is America A Useful Test?

The U.S. market likes clear promises: easy handling, usable space, local service and a transparent cost of ownership. The OT-60 is not trying to win on outright speed. It is selling a different rhythm: longer range, a quieter pace, low fuel burn and a yacht designed to be comfortable at anchor rather than merely impressive on arrival.

For a European buyer, the tour is a useful signal too. If the model is well received in Newport, Annapolis and Fort Lauderdale, the yard gets evidence that it is not building only a niche Mediterranean boat. It gets proof that a slower, more domestic motor-yacht concept can also work with clients who judge boats through distance, support and resale.

The same filter applies to smaller premium boats. Our note on Windy’s Cannes sales presence showed why an attractive chase boat still needs a real sales, specification and support path after the first season.

What Should Buyers Check First?

In practice, a buyer should ask for the exact specification of the boat in front of them: engines, stabilisation, generator, battery package, air conditioning, tankage, certification and a real service plan in the area where the yacht will be used. A 1,400-nautical-mile claim at 8 knots is useful, but it does not replace an operating profile that includes fuel reserve, weather, load and sea state.

Compared with faster flybridges or sport cruisers, the OT-60 sells a different philosophy. When choosing this kind of yacht, an owner-side broker such as W Yachts should help answer a simple question: does the owner really want to travel further and more quietly, or do they simply like the story of a slower life on the water?
