IGY to operate Il Monte Galala Marina on Egypt's Red Sea coast

Jan Kilian · Market correspondent · · 3 min read

Tatweer Misr signed an agreement at Monaco Yacht Show 2026 formally appointing IGY Marinas to operate Il Monte Galala Marina on Egypt’s Red Sea coast. The move follows IGY’s earlier advisory role, announced in April. For yacht owners, the important question is not simply whether another marina is being marketed, but whether Egypt is building a credible stop between the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal and routes towards the Gulf and Indian Ocean.

The companies say the marina will offer more than 150 berths for yachts between 10 and 80 metres. Around 10 percent of capacity is intended for yachts over 40 metres, including two berths for yachts up to 80 metres. The marina infrastructure is described as a roughly $44 million investment, while the wider Il Monte Galala Marina Towers phase is presented as an approximately $1 billion development.

Why The Operator Matters

IGY brings a marina-management brand already familiar to the superyacht sector. Tatweer Misr describes the wider project as combining residences, hospitality, retail, conferences and tourism infrastructure. That mix may help year-round activity, but owners and captains should still ask practical questions: depths, fuel supply, technical support, customs procedures, security, booking priority for 40-80 metre yachts and the realistic opening schedule.

The strategic point is more interesting than the property story. Egypt’s Red Sea coast sits naturally on routes between the Med, the Gulf and the Indian Ocean, but many owners have treated it as a transit zone rather than a long-stay base. A professional operator can change that only if port procedures and captain support match the marketing.

Route Planning Signal

Our recent note on Marina Port Vell and Biras Marina looked at operators building networks rather than standalone berths. Il Monte Galala points in a similar direction, but in a different cruising region. For a W Yachts client, that could matter when planning wintering, delivery or a longer itinerary after purchase.

It is too early to treat the project as a proven operating base. It is, however, a useful signal that the Red Sea is moving back into the infrastructure conversation for larger yachts, not just resort tourism and diving.
