GX Superyachts has used Monaco Yacht Show to present the first GX42. The organiser lists the conference as the world debut of the yacht, while the builder describes the 42-metre platform as a new generation of superyacht shaped around intelligent efficiency, hybrid technology and quiet onboard comfort.
The basic numbers are specific: 42.10 metres length overall, 8.50 metres of beam, 1.90 metres of draft, a maximum speed of 16 knots and a 12-knot cruising speed. GX also points to the experience behind Greenline Yachts, a brand associated with hybrid propulsion in smaller craft. At 42 metres, however, hybrid heritage is only the start of the proof.
Silence Has To Be Measured
For an owner, the central question is when the yacht can actually use electric operation and how long it can support hotel load without generators. A buyer should ask for battery capacity, solar output, cooling procedures, service access, battery warranty and the replacement scenario after several seasons.
GX talks about long-range capability, hybrid architecture and generous living spaces. That is the right language for a family-minded owner who wants to travel further and more quietly. A broker should translate it into an operating profile: how many hours the yacht spends at anchor, whether target marinas offer shore power, how charging works between short passages and what heat does to the system in Mediterranean summer conditions.
A First-Yacht Test
We mentioned GX42 in our earlier Monaco Yacht Show opening note, but the conference and yacht presence at H24 now make it a full due-diligence subject. This is not another model from a large group with a long-established service network. It is the first yacht from a brand that still has to prove repeatability.
For an international buyer, the attraction is clear: 42 metres is large enough for quiet hybrid operation to affect comfort, crew workflow and resale value. Before comparing GX42 with a conventional semi-custom yacht, ask for sea-trial data, battery-support terms and a total cost of ownership comparison.
