Cannes Yachting Festival opens today. More than 710 yachts will test confidence in the next season

The 49th Cannes Yachting Festival opens across the Vieux Port and Port Canto. Over six days, the organiser is bringing together more than 710 boats and yachts, over 680 exhibitors and around 150 world debuts, with 56,000 visitors expected. That scale makes Cannes more than a spectacular opening: it is the market’s first serious test ahead of the 2027 season.

A strong product season, before the commercial verdict

One hundred and fifty world debuts do not guarantee 150 sales successes. They do show that yards have not come to Cannes simply to sit out uncertainty. They have brought new models, revised ranges and technology intended to persuade clients to enter another buying cycle.

That matters after months of mixed signals. Sanlorenzo reported a growing order backlog, while other companies face pressure around cash and margins. Cannes will show whether product activity is matched by clients ready to decide.

Crowd numbers alone will not answer that question. The more useful signals will be queues for particular models, sea-trial activity, discussions about available production slots and whether dealers are talking only about list prices or already negotiating the terms needed to close transactions.

Two harbours reveal two markets

Cannes is unusually effective because very different parts of the industry can be compared in one place. The Vieux Port is the home of power, new motor yachts, equipment and marine technology. Port Canto combines sailing, brokerage, toys and a power-boat marina for craft up to 13 metres.

For a buyer, that split has real value. A new model can be compared with a pre-owned yacht and discussed with service or resale specialists in one day. The internet presents configurations. Cannes exposes deck circulation, build quality and the people expected to provide support after delivery.

Four signals we will be watching

First is demand between 15 and 30 metres, where private owners are increasingly balancing aspiration against crew, marina and service costs. Second is the relationship between new orders and yachts available for immediate delivery. Third is the substance of the commercial offer: warranty, included equipment and realistic delivery dates. Fourth is technology — not the word “hybrid” or “innovation”, but serviceability and value after several seasons.

The format helps. Yachts are displayed afloat, selected boats can be experienced through sea trials, and leading brands meet across two harbours that form a practical map of the market. Clients can compare several solutions without repeatedly travelling across Europe.

RynekJachtow.pl is reporting from Cannes

We are present at the show and will publish reports throughout the week, covering debuts, conversations and the market signals that matter. Our purpose is not to rewrite press releases. We will examine what works aboard, what buyers are asking and where a strong presentation is supported by genuine value.

Before arriving, readers can use our practical first-time guide to Cannes. Those attending with a specific purchase in mind can ask W Yachts to organise a shortlist and appointments.

Cannes cannot settle the entire season in six days. It can reveal where genuine movement is developing, which launches attract buyers as well as cameras, and how confidently yards are discussing the next twelve months. The opening signal is strong: the industry has arrived with ambition, and the organiser has created the best possible stage on which to test it.
